Kelly gives no credit to any scholars that have come before her.And her saying that Catherine Morland is masturbating at the beginning of NA without any evidence from the text is irresponsible shock vale stuff. Terry Castle wrote about Austen and masturbation YEARS ago. The reviews are great as well. My interest (because I live in Basingstoke) is in the families she met and danced with (mostly here in Basingstoke)and her connections. Steventon is now within the Borough of Basingstoke and Deane and we will have a sculpture of Jane in our Market Place. And I in turn am not the first to notice the sexual imagery in the scenes at the Abbey --take a closer look at those passages, you may be surprised at what you see.

Cheers, ARNIEArnie Perlsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01720424361279466002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196124033481143515.post-32948011426707305152017-01-19T18:55:52.744+00:002017-01-19T18:55:52.744+00:00ALL the Shadow Stories of Jane Austen the Secret R...ALL the Shadow Stories of Jane Austen the Secret Radical (Feminist) http://tinyurl.com/j6mh3k4Arnie Perlsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01720424361279466002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196124033481143515.post-45038820227512353982017-01-19T12:10:21.412+00:002017-01-19T12:10:21.412+00:00Well, you've actually interested me in the boo...Well, you've actually interested me in the book with this review! I can certainly buy the idea that Jane Austen's world reflects the inequalities and the difficulties faced by women and less privileged classes. But I suspect it's a reflection of what she knew and understood rather than a deliberate attempt to draw attention to the evils of her time as she saw them. Any author draws on her understanding and personal opinions of her own world, could you help doing it? It makes it interesting, I think, to look at such comparisons. But I would agree that Austen was, first and foremost, a storyteller and the rest is incidental and a testament to her intelligence and insight.Elizabeth Baileyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09407958362024218785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196124033481143515.post-74722619310532808242017-01-19T04:59:54.756+00:002017-01-19T04:59:54.756+00:00Hmmmm.... thanks for your review!
