OUR STORY

We love researching, writing and sharing about the late Georgian and Regency world.

That’s why Rachel set up the Regency History blog in 2011. While she was researching for her first Regency romance, she was keen to share what she learned.

She used social media to make other Regency fans - authors and readers - aware of what she was discovering.

Within a few years the media, including the BBC, began coming to Rachel for her insights into personalities and places in the Regency world.

Today the blog is better and bigger than ever and we continue to add to it. Almost every day we’re learning something new about the late Georgian and Regency world, and sharing it through new articles and our social media channels.

Andrew and Rachel have been exploring history together since they met at university more than 40 years ago. They now work together on the blog, compiling Regency and Georgian historical research and also writing historical fiction and non-fiction.

From 2025 we are on the committee of the Association of Christian Writers, and we lead an ACW writers’ group that meets in-person and online.

Rachel Knowles

Author of Regency romance

Rachel’s passion for the Regency period began when she first read Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as a girl.

Her flair for historical research began around the same time, with genealogy. She discovered a love for exploring old documents, pursuing facts and answers through a variety of archives.

This enthusiasm for research translated into digging into old books, journals and newspapers related to the Regency period, to gather background for her novels.

Rachel has been interviewed on a number occasions for various BBC local radio stations, and has featured on South Korean television programmes relating to the Regency. She’s authored a non-fiction book What Regency Women Did For Us, published by Pen & Sword.

She often gives talks about the Regency world, both in person and online. Many of these talks are delivered wearing authentic Regency costume.

Rachel’s Regency romances published to date are:

  • A Perfect Match

  • A Reason for Romance

  • A Single Obsession

  • Miss Harding’s Hope

  • Miss Vincent’s Vow

  • Engaging Miss Shaw

  • The Disappointed Daughter

Andrew Knowles

Researcher and writer

Like Rachel, Andrew has always loved history. He studied it at the University of Southampton, graduating with a degree in History and Archaeology.

He’s supported and encouraged Rachel since the early days of the Regency History blog, in 2011, and contributed a number of articles.

More recently, Andrew has dedicated much more time to his own historical research and writing. He’s chosen to focus on the late Georgian and Regency period, because it’s a fascinating time of development and change.

Andrew’s professional background includes having qualified as an accountant (as did Rachel), and spending a decade as a consultant and trainer for a major US software company. He became a freelance writer for business in 2009.

Today Andrew spends much of his time immersed in historical sources and writing articles for the Regency History blog. He also manages the social media for Regency History and shares giving talks with Rachel.
